In the Middle East; Iran has everything it needs to become a powerful state.

It is 2 ½ times the size of France and the 19th most populated country in the world.

Its people are educated and it has huge oil and gas reserves.

Yet, Iran is poor, because of a long economic embargo.

For many years, it couldn’t sell or buy products from abroad.

This embargo was set up by the United States and the European Union.

They suspected Iran of helping terrorists and especially of secretly making a nuclear bomb, a weapon of mass destruction.

The embargo was lifted in 2016 and gave hope to the inhabitants and… business leaders, attracted by this promising country.

But even if Iran can now trade with the rest of the world, development is slow, because it’s a very conservative country.

The head of state is the Supreme Leader. A religious leader, more powerful than the president of Iran.

There, laws are governed by a strict Islam: people have little freedom and equality between men and women doesn’t exist.

The Supreme Leader and other clerics refuse to relax the laws to open up the country and give people more rights.

But it’s getting harder for them to hold back people’s impatience. Especially young people, who dream of living… like you do!
